Project New ternary cement 2

Ternary cements with high limestone filler and low slag contents - CemCalc

Generalities

Final aim of this research: Characterization of new cement

Interest: General knowledge of hydraulic binders chemistry

Summary

The general goal of this project is to characterize new ternary cements (not existing in the EN 197-1 standard) with low Slag contents (S < 30 %) and with high filler contents (K/L > 1, K < 65 %). This domain of K/S/L concentrations has not been investigated in the federal project CEM X.

The ternary graph (K/S/L) below compares the compositions (AA, BB, CC and DD) of the standardization project CEM X and the domain of concentration that will be studied in this Research. The lower limit of slag contents has been chosen for two reasons:

- to have a common concentration (CC) in the two projects and enable to have a link with the standardization CEM X project;

- the recent lack of blast furnace slag resources.

The cements will be characterized in a first time chemically and mechanically.

In a second time a comparative mechanical study (with reference cements) will be carried out on mortars. The results of this study will enable to choose several interesting K/S/L compositions that will be used for the concretes manufacturing (two resistance classes). The mechanical and durability performances of these concretes made on the basis of these new cements will be compared with these of concretes made with reference cements.
