Project Concrete with a high slag contents

Concrete with a high slag contents - Beslag

Generalities

Final aim of this research: Durability of concrete using cements with a high slag contents

Interest: Environmental – Strategic

Summary

One observes a decrease of the Portland cement production in favour of the cements in which a part the clinker has been replaced by industrial secondary products (milled slag of a blast furnace, fly ashes,…).

The amount of clinker, present in the concrete decreases however rarely below 150 kg/m³ (in the case of reinforced concrete).

Besides, the durability of the concretes obtained with these high concentrations of sub-products requires a more detailed study as for example the way to enhance their durability by an adapted composition and appropriated placement.

The aim of this study is the integration of elevated quantities of certain industrial sub-products in concrete to reduce their environmental impact and at the same time insure a prolonged lifetime of the concrete structures.

This study has been limited to the cements with a high slag contents (CEM III/B, CEM III/C and sur-sulfated cements). The cements with a lower slag (CEM III/A, CEM II/A-S and CEM II/B-S) content are not considered here.
