Project Methods for measuring the setting time on fireproof concretes

Development of standardised procedures that will help to master the workability and the setting of fireproof concretes - PriBref

Generalities

Final aim of this research: Standardization of new techniques to measure the binding time in the domain of heat-resistant concretes.

Interest: Technological knowledge development in a field less familiar to the Centre. A first cooperation with another Belgian Centre competent in the concrete domain.

Summary

This Federal project has been started in September 2009 by the BCRC. In this second part of the study, the CRIC-OCCN has been associated to apply its knowledge on the setting behaviour of ordinary concretes to the setting of refractory concretes. Different techniques available at the CRIC-OCCN are promising:

  • An electric 4 points electrical resistivity method developed recently at the CRIC-OCCN;
  • Ultrasonic, calorimetric and penetration measurements;
  • Conventional mechanical measurements as for example Kelly-Briant or others.

The non-destructive tests, that can be used in situ, will have our preference.
