The more and more diverse origin of blast-furnace slags leads to a diversification of their physico-chemical characteristics. In this context, it becomes essential to know the influence of these characteristics on the reactivity of the blast-furnace slags used in substitution of clinker in the blast-furnace cements or “CEM III”.
The present study consists in characterizing twelve anhydrous slags by their chemistry and microstructure. On the basis of the results, four slags are selected in order to study, subsequently, their behavior during the hydration. The selection criteria are their chemical composition, in particular the contents of TiO2, in Al2O3 and MgO, their degree of precarbonatation and their rate of crystallization.
