Cement is a construction product used in the composition of mortar and concrete. The hydraulic binder (i.e. a binder that reacts when mixed with water) hardens quickly and reaches its maximum strength in just a few days. Once hardened, it maintains its strength and stability, even under water. The principal component in cement? The clinker that is made by heating calcium carbonate (CaCO3) with silica (SiO2) at high temperatures (of up to 1450°C).There are different types of cement: from Portland cement and blended cement to over-sulphated cement, etc.
